Master Sergeant Mack Gerhardt, call sign "Dirt Diver," is the assistant team leader of the Alpha Team of the 1st Special Actions Group, otherwise known as The Unit. During his tenure with The Unit, Mack has gone undercover as a prizefighter in an illegal betting ring, recovered a radioactive component of a fallen Chinese satellite and assisted in the assassination of a terrorist financier in Spain. He was offered a chance to lead his own team by Colonel Thomas Ryan but turned it down, preferring to serve with his friend and confidante, Jonas Blane. He has a strained relationship with his wife, Tiffy, who is prone to adulterous affairs, including one with Mack's superior officer, Thomas Ryan. He and Tiffy have two daughters.
