Jake Sully was a paraplegic Marine assigned to the moon Pandora, where the RDA Corporation was mining a valuable mineral known as Unobtanium. Jake was assigned by Colonel Miles Quaritch to don an "avatar" and infiltrate Pandora's natives, the Na'vi, to find a way to convince them to evacuate their Hometree, the site of a huge amount of Unobtanium. Jake ends up embracing the ways of the Na'vi and falls in love with the princess of the Omaticaya clan, Neytiri. He also leads the battle against the human army and eventually becomes the Toruk Makto, the Na'vi who succeeded in taming the Great Leonopteryx. After defeating the human army, the Na'vi perform a ritual in which they entreat their goddess, Eywa, to permanently transfer Jake's consciousness into his Avatar body.
