Hans Gruber is a former German radical activist turned self-described "extraordinary thief." Hans is the mastermind behind a large-scale heist of Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles, where he and his minions take several employees prisoner on Christmas Eve and look to steal over $640 million in bearer bonds from the building's vault. Hans is just cool, smart, suave and sophisticated to pull it off, too - though he didn't count on an unforeseen fly in the ointment, a wisecracking rogue cop by the name of John McClane. Hans ended up falling several stories to his doom, though his estranged brother Simon would eventually emerge and attempt to avenge his death. McClane killed his ass, too.
