Conrad Strughold is a high-ranking member of The Syndicate, the secret organization behind The Project, a global conspiracy involving a sinister alliance with an alien race looking to colonize Earth. In 1998, Strughold called for a Syndicate meeting in London after a new strain of purity (otherwise known as the "black oil") was discovered. He suggested the Syndicate continue cooperating with "the Greys" - and also suggested they kill Special Agent Fox Mulder, or at least someone close to him. After the X Files are reopened, it is the Cigarette Smoking Man who delivers the news to Strughold in Tunisia, to which he half-heartedly replies, "How can one man Fight the Future?" Strughold doesn't appear in the X Files episode, "One Son" (1999), in which the Syndicate meets its demise at the hands of an alien rebellion, so it is unknown whether he was killed or survived the attack.
