Release date: September 19, 2003
An elderly Elvis Presley and a man who believes he's JFK take on the ancient mummy that's wrecking havoc in their nursing home.
You need more convincing after reading that pitch? Okay, here's a few more reasons why Bubba Ho-tep belongs on your shelf, like, pronto: Elvis is played by none other than Bruce Campbell, giving what's probably the performance of his career; JFK is played by the late, great Ossie Davis with a sense of sly mischief ("Let's get decadent!" he tells Elvis after showing him his secret stash of candy bars); and it's directed by the guy who made Phantasm, one of the weirdest and most wonderful horror movies ever made. Surprisingly, Bubba Ho-tep is not a wacky comedy; it plays its bizarre premise pretty straight and ends up being a melancholy and rather touching story about growing older and getting that one last shot at doing something great.
Don Coscarelli (director), Bruce Campbell, Ossie Davis, Ella Joyce, Heidi Marnhout, Bob Ivy, Edith Jefferson, Larry Pennell, Reggie Bannister, Daniel Roebuck, Daniel Schweiger.
