Why You Need It:

Any skepticism about a sequel to 28 Days Later was quickly put to bed when this angry, brawny, brainy apocalyptic thriller reared its head. Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo expands Danny Boyle's intimate canvas and delivers a powerful portrait of corrupt militarism, powerless science and rampaging nature. Boyle buddy Robert Carlyle is especially chilling as a father oh so slowly succumbing to the virus. Whereas 28 Days was ultimately a humanistic and optimistic tale about the strength of the human spirit in the face of the apocalypse, 28 Weeks is chillingly cruel and cynical - and therefore perhaps the scarier film.
