I realize it's kind of ridiculous to complain about a character named "Phoenix" rising from the dead, but it must be done. The sacrifice of Jean Grey was one of the high points of Chris Claremont's run on X-Men. The psychic had been overtaken by an immensely powerful cosmic entity that was driving her insane, and rather than risk the destruction of the universe, she destroyed herself.
But then, of course, they brought Jean back with a ridiculous explanation that put her in a cocoon in Long Island Sound, saying that Phoenix was a separate entity that just looked (and acted) like Jean Grey. Of course, then the Phoenix entity came back too, and then Jean was Phoenix again, and then Jean died again... it just doesn't stop. New rumors from the House of Ideas have Phoenix coming back again in 2012.
