The mystery of Cobra Commander's headgear was never really explained on G.I. Joe - some days he wore the featureless mirror mask, and others he wore the classic hood. If you wanted to boss your Cobra troops around with the hooded version back in the 80s, you couldn't buy him in the store. The geniuses at Hasbro made him available only by mail for the entire production run of the toy, from 1984 to 1994. That's dedication to the concept and makes him one of the coolest mail-in offer toys ever.
