For some, it was two decades of dreams and prayers answered in 2.35:1 widescreen glory. For others, like myself, the only thing it transformed was our love of all things Autobot and Decepticon. Doesn't matter either way because Transformers made $319 million at the domestic box office alone and Bay is back in action readying Optimus and the gang's second coming. But, for those of us less than enthusiastic about the first installment, will it be more of the same? Or can Uwe Boll's nemesis manage to tell a coherent story to compliment the dazzling effects? Only June 26th, 2009 knows for sure. But, in the meantime, there's always this spoiler zone and collection of tidbits n' factoids to give us an indication of where Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is headed...

Principal photography on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen began on June 2, 2008 for a planned June 26, 2009 worldwide release.

Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson will return, as will of course Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and John Turturro, with Rainn Wilson joining in the fun as a college professor. Added to the list are Matthew Marsden, Andrew Howard and Ramon Rodriguez. (BamKapow)

Three days were spent on an action sequence at the Bethlehem Steel site in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which was used to represent a portion of a fictional Chinese city. Afterwards, they shot at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. (Washington Post)
LaBeouf and Fox were scheduled to film at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC June 5th and 6th. The scene seems to center around searching for something in the museum related to the Decepticons. (BamKapow)

Campus scenes were shot at both Princeton and at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

An extra has disclosed some details on one of the scenes that takes place at the college:
"I was in one of the party scenes. I had to get fitted with jeans and a button down dress shirt, we all were and Shia was wearing dark jeans and a black button down shirt. In the scene which they shot 3 times from different angles Shia was sitting on a old wooden chair when this girl [Isabel Lucas] in a green short dress (who I thought was an extra) was dancing in front of him and kept leaning into him. That's it for the scene I was in but there is a lot more to it." (TransformersLive)

June 9, 2008: The crew moved to Philadelphia where they shot at the Exelon plants in Delaware; the University of Pennsylvania, the Eastern State Penitentiary, Fairmount Park along with Rittenhouse Square (which represents Paris) and Wanamaker's. (Philly.com)

Filming at Princeton angered some students at the University of Pennsylvania, believing Bay had chosen to reshoot scenes at Princeton, the school's historical rival, and script Princeton's name in the movie. However, neither the University of Pennsylvania nor Princeton gave Bay permission to be named in the film because of a "funny 'mom' scene" that both felt "did not represent the school". Setember 2008: The crew shot at Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The two locations were used for Qatar in the first film, and stood in for Egypt in this film. (Whatsuppub)
To stage an action scene at White Sands, the buildings built on the sand had explosives rigged inside of them, and six F-16s were flown over the area. (ET Online)

The first unit (including Shia LaBeouf) then shot for a week in Egypt itself, at the Giza pyramid complex and Luxor. For security's sake, the shoot was highly secretive: but according to Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a crew of 150 Americans and "several dozen local Egyptians" ensured a "remarkably smooth" shoot. Towards the end of filming though, LaBeouf injured his eye when he hit a prop, which required seven stitches. He resumed filming two hours later.
The Transformers aren't the only ones doing the transforming in next summer's sequel: "In this one I transform from a girl into a woman," says Megan Fox. (MTV Movies Blog)

Fox had lost a lot of weight for her role in Jennifer's Body, and had to gain ten pounds within three weeks. She explained "Michael [Bay] doesn't like skinny girls." (Fox News)
Shootfortheedit.com's Nelson confirms that Michael Bay stated that there will be no Dinobots in the film.

Josh Duhamel is Captain William Lennox, an ally of the Autobots. (Hollywood Reporter)
Since the first film Lennox has become part of an international taskforce battling Decepticons with the Autobots. (MTV)
Josh Duhamel has also revealed a key plot detail in an interview with Empire:
"I guess who he's working with is probably the biggest change," said Duhamel, before adding once more, presumably for emphasis. "Who he's working with." ...implying that the Autobots and Decepticons may be forced to work together to overcome a greater evil, perhaps the all powerful Fallen.

Matthew Marsden is Graham, a member of the United Kingdom Special Forces who joins Lennox's team. Marsden grew up reading the comic book and loved the first film. Bay was impressed with his audition and decided to increase the character's screentime. (MTV)

Bay wanted Amaury Nolasco to return as soldier Jorge Figueroa, who was wounded by Scorponok in the first film, but Nolasco was not able to participate due to schedule conflicts (he may appear in a third film). (MTV)

Starscream, the air commander who flew into space at the end of the previous film. Orci confirmed he will have more dialogue. (Seibertron)
Starscream transformed into an F-22 Raptor and was voiced by Charlie Adler. Mowry stated Starscream differs from his 1980s incarnation because "His motivations are more for the species. He's definitely at odds with what Prime and Megatron have been doing. He thinks that they've both been consumed with greed, for their own selfish reasons, but as he finds out, his plans start to fall through as he's kind of becoming overwhelmed with the same greed that they had." Soundwave transforms into a Cybertronian satellite. The concept artists also designed an Earth form of a Chevrolet Silverado for him to upgrade into, which Orci stated was dropped. (TFW2005)
In the 1980s toyline, Soundwave was a tape deck. The filmmakers had tried to work him into the first film twice, and these roles eventually evolved into Blackout (a MH-53 Pave Low helicopter) and Frenzy (who changed into a CD Player and later into a mobile phone). Ravage, a minion of Soundwave. Hasbro said he has a "raw" beast mode. (Seibertron)
A puppet, with a body resembling Frenzy, a cat like face, dreadlocks, and a bird-like beak, was spotted on set. (TFW2005)
Barricade, a Saleen S281 police car, will return after disappearing in the first film.

The combo robot was named Devastator in the 1980s toyline, but this name was mistakenly given to Brawl in the first film. The name Bonecrusher, who was one of the Constructicons in the 1980s and Transformers: Energon, was also used for a Decepticon killed in the first film. Orci stated during writing neither character will be resurrected though. (DonMurphy)
The Fallen. He is based on a character introduced in the second Transformers: The War Within comic book (2003). He was one of the original thirteen Transformers, and became a servant of Unicron. (Seibertron)
Lorenzo di Bonaventura said that in total, there will be around three times more robots than in the first film, (which had thirteen Autobots and Decepticons, and four minor machines mutated by the All Spark). (IESB)

The Movie Blog got the scoop on one of the key indoor scenes involving Shia La Boeuof and Rainn Wilson as a professor. This passage of text does give away spoilers - involving mystical powers and Einstein:
On the first day of class, Sam goes crazy just before getting to class for some reason. It seems there is some object that he was exposed to that affected him, our guess is the splinter from the cube. Anyways, Rainn Wilson asks the class to turn to the first page of the text book (which, apparently, Rainn Wilson's character is the professor of the class AND the writer of the Astronomy text book that they are using in class). Wilson's character's name is Professor Colon (pronounced: koh - lawn). Everyone except Sam turns to the first page. Sam, instead, read the entire book in 5 seconds by just flipping through it, then starts telling Wilson's character about what parts of his book are wrong. He also starts talking about how Einstein was wrong. Sam gets up from his seat and goes up to the chalk board and starts writing a lot of weird symbols on the chalk board (probably Cryptonian). Then he starts asking why nobody understands and then he leaves class. On the second day of class, he apparently returns, but acts less crazy.The reason we suspect that it is an object he touches that makes him crazy is because there was a scene shot earlier where he was on the phone Fox's character Mikaela, and he was asking her if she had "it" and then told her to make sure she doesn't touch "it". Our guess is the "splinter" (left over piece of the Allspark Cube), but it could be something else, of course.Oh, and the last scene that was filmed on Wednesday evening was of Sam arriving to class while riding the red motorcycle that people have seen in pictures. I don't think that proves whether or not it is a Transformer or just a motorcycle, but it could be worthwhile information in the future. (The Movie Blog via transformers.moviechronicles.com)

Jon Voight has confirmed that he is not working on the film. (Collider)

The Movie Blog has posted information regarding the plot of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that they claim comes from a trusted source on the set of the movie. Within the posting is information that Sam Witwicky is driven "crazy" after contacting a strange object that causes him to do something crazy is Astronomy class. This Astronomy class is taught by Professor Colon, which is the role presumably played by Rainn Wilson. The outfall over his "insanity" causes him to contact Mikaela. Additionally, the report claims that part of the filming featured Sam Witwicky riding around the Aprilla RS 50 motorcycle that was previously reported on set. (The Movie Blog)

The New Jersey-based The Times newspaper has posted an article in which some brief details about Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes plot for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are revealed. In the article, director Michael Bay tells the reporter that the university angle to the plot "is all about Sam growing up and going to college ... a teenager growing into a man". The article then continues on and mentions the following:
Although both characters have grown from high school- to college-age since the first "Transformers" installment, only LaBeouf's Witwicky is off to college because Fox's Banes can't afford school, Bay said.
With Witwicky enrolled at a fictional East Coast school with an Ivy League feel, Banes comes from Los Angeles as a visitor to her friend's new campus, Bay said. (The Times)

Luxoflux is developing a video game based on the film, which Activision will publish. (TeamXbox.com)
IDW Publishing will publish a five-issue prequel comic entitled Transformers: Destiny, written by Chris Mowry and drawn by Alex Milne, who collaborated on the company's previous comic based on the films, The Reign of Starscream. The comic begins in December 2008. Destiny comprises two four-part stories, the first of which is entitled Alliance. (ComicsContinuum.com)
During production, Bay attempted to create a misinformation campaign to increase debate over what Transformers would be appearing in the film, as well as to try to throw fans off from the story of the film. However, Orci confessed it had generally not been working. (TFW2005)
The studio went as far as to censor MTV and Comic Book Resources interviews with Mowry and Furman, who confirmed Arcee and The Fallen would be in the picture. (Seibertron)
Finally, there is the infamous Call Sheet leaked from the set during the summer of 2008 which revealed many characters involved in the sequel as well as some new ones...
Arcee - a motorcycle (named after the only female Autobot in the original Transformers: The Movie)

The Twins - an Ice Cream Truck, which sounds incredibly goofy, until you read the description of what they do.

Stinger - possibly a Porsche, but unconfirmedR8 - character's name is unknown, but transforms into an Audi R8.

Wheels (or Wheelbot) - possibly some kind of Go-Kart.

Jetfire - a Blackbird jet.

Constructicon Earth Mover - name is unconfirmed, but if that's true, we'll probably get Devastator (Constructicons, not the tank in the first movie).

The folks over at Jalopnik have posted images of Bumbulee (fancy car mode). Looks to be a 2010 Chevy Camaro Z28 (concept car) this time around. (jalopnik.com via aicn)

19-25. Sam's roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life. 2nd Lead.

U.S. Military Leader
Late 20s/Early 30s, African-American with a great sense of humor and a tough military presence. Supporting Lead.

UK Special Forces Leader
Early-Mid 30s, British, smart and capable. Can be Caucasian, Black, East Indian. Supporting Lead.

Galloway

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, Hasbro has filed for fourteen new trademark applications for Transformers. This is typically done when Hasbro wants to exclusively secure a new for present or future use. Some of the fourteen names are being used for obvious reasons (already announced Animated and Universe figures), but several of these names are being trademarked for unknown and unannounced use. Could some of these be figures for characters in the upcoming sequel?...

The opening of Transformers 2 takes place at a Steel Factory in Shanghai, China, the Autobots, the British SAS (Matthew Marsden as "Graham" and Andrew Howard) and Captain Lennox's Military team (Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson) are chasing after a Decepticon Audi RS8. (Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are not featured in the opening chase sequence). Included with the Autobots are a pair of robots called The Twins, when they transform they join together to form a pink and white Ice Cream Van. Also involved in the chase is a hot pink superbike, with black highlights which turns into the Autobot Arcee along with a few others. (Slash Film)
The site also had word that the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum scene takes place much later into the movie. Bumblebee and The Twins are left in the parking lot as Sam, Mikaela, Sam's college roommate/friend Leo, and Sector 7 Agent Simmons distract the guards and break into the Smithsonian after dark. Simmons uses a radiation tracker to find a SR-71 Blackbird (pictured) in the museum. Sam uses something called the "Splinter" to activate the SR-71, which transforms into Jetfire. (Slash Film)
Arcee, the female Transformer, doesn't die in the movie - instead, she doesn't show up until later on, and she spends most of her time in robot form instead of her three-motorcycles version. Only one character combines with an Autobot to make a bigger robot. The Constructicon is nine vehicles put together, but it'll only put in a brief appearance. Scorponok is back, and he uses his internal "spark" to restore life to one of the Decepticons. (Gosh, which one could it be?) [Seibertron]
Soundwave is black, and does not have an Earth mode. And the Decepticons mention Soundwave during their discussions. [Seibertron]
The Constructicons join together to form Devastator more than once. Jetfire starts off as a Destructicon and then changes sides. Also, John Turturro's character dies at last. Optimus Prime "has a scene with a trailer." And Ravage is actually a biological weapon, and there's no Laserbeak. The ice cream truck, the Chevy Volt, and the Hummer HX are not Transformers. And Megatron doesn't return (possibly as a tank) until the end of the movie - when Soundwave resurrects him. [Seibertron]
"The Fallen" is an old Cybertronian legend - it's not one robot but a whole army of robots who are supposed to protect the Cube. When Sam goes bonkers and starts talking gibberish, he's actually reciting Cybertronian hieroglyphics prophesying the return of the Fallen. (TFW2005)
The character of Alice (Isabel Lucas) "is a Pretender." Wikipedia reminds us that, "a Pretender is a Cybertonian who can inhabit or exist alongside a remotely controlled robotic shell. This shell can appear humanoid, alien, monstrous or have a vehiclular form. Some advanced pretenders shells can even transform between several forms or combine with their controller's vehicle form. Others can shrink in size to pass for real humans or animals."
TFW2005 claims that Alice's shell "will be an attractive human woman while the inner robot is best described as a hybrid of the Frenzy robot design from the first movie. The Pretender Transformer will have an arm that transforms into an energy weapon, a long tongue, and a scanning tenticle [sic]." (TFW2005)
And last but not least, my favorite Transformers 2 rumor is the very real possibility that Howard Stern wack-pack member "Beetlejuice" (AKA Lester Green) might appear in the film, as he has been photographed on set. (TransformersLive)
