If people are half as interested in actually seeing The Dark Knight Rises as they are in casting news and rumors about the third Batman flick, director Christopher Nolan could very well have a hit on his hands. Which, frankly, would be a well-needed boost to the guy's ego after the complete commercial and critical failure of 2010's Inception.

For months, rumors have swirled about regarding the casting of both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard, as well as what roles the two actors might play. Theories abounded that Gordon-Levitt might play any number of roles, including Alberto Falcone, the Riddler, a new Joker or that the 3rd Rock from the Sun star might even lend his voice to a cell-animated Bat-Mite (that last one might have been wishful thinking on our part). Similarly, the entire internet seemed convinced that Marion Cotillard would end up playing the super-sexy daughter of Ra's al Ghul, Talia.

But, in a startling twist of events, the internet turned out to be completely wrong. Before today, who would have ever guessed such a thing?

Christian Bale can't yell at or threaten a cartoon character.

Now, it's been revealed that both thespians will play roles up until now unknown to even the most fanatical Batman fans. Gordon-Levitt will be playing John Blake, described by the press release as "a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon." Meanwhile Cotillard will be taking on the role of Miranda Tate, "a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham."

Neither role is quite as exciting as say, a colorful costumed supervillain, or the slinky daughter of a colorful costumed supervillain, but as Inception's dismal box office receipts showed, nobody's perfect. Now all that remains is to wait out the announcement on who will be playing Batzarro.
