Wes Anderson and his fantastic fox have just been taken to school.

Proving that Czech animation does not begin and end with Jan Svankmajer, Jiri Barta was on hand at Fantastic Fest to present In The Attic.

Story-wise, it is basically Toy Story.  When the humans aren't looking, the toys come to life, get separated and must band together against evil to return home.  Visually, it is the precise opposite of Pixar.

Instead of state-of-the-art computer graphics, Barta employs an ingenious and crafty animation style, predominantly stop motion of found objects.  The movie wasn't running for more than sixty seconds before I was remarking just how damned clever it was.
