Living legend Stan Lee has joined forces with acclaimed writer-artist Hiroyuki Takei for the new manga, Ultimo (or ULTIMO, all-caps craziness!). Ultimo sounds like the perfect blend of Lee's fascination with adolescent angst (mixed with a super power or two) and manga's high-stakes supernatural madness as it chronicles the adventures of a teenager whose already complicated life of girl and money troubles gets even more bizarre when he comes across a puppet named Ultimo and his archenemy, Vice. It turns out that Ultimo and Vice are Karakuri doji, the mechanical embodiment of good and evil, and must now fight to the death to see which power takes hold of the universe. POW!
Stan Lee is, of course, the mastermind behind such Marvel characters as Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and man determined to make a cameo appearance in every Marvel movie until the end of time. Hiroyuki Takei is known for his action series Butsu Zone, based on Buddhist mythology, and his multicultural adventure manga Shaman King, which debuted in 1998 and has been adapted into an animated series.
Ultimo will be released on February 2nd, published by Viz Media and Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment. Excelsior!
