Like Rescue Dawn, the first part of The Way Back concerns itself with escaping a POW camp. But it's only when a ragtag group of World War II gulag prisoners escape their Siberian captivity that the survival aspect starts to make itself known. The group must make an incredibly difficult, arduous journey across the steppes to Mongolia, with very little in the way of supplies. But when the trek to Mongolia is derailed, they turn to an even harder path: across the Gobi desert. Yikes.
