Every once in a while, a fan film comes along that's so good, people mistake it for the real thing. When Mortal Kombat: Rebirth hit the Internet in 2010, a lot of people thought it was test footage for a new Mortal Kombat film, it was so professional. But no—it was the work of young director Kevin Tancharoen, who had long been a fan of the blood-soaked fighting franchise. In a happy ending, Warner Brothers (the owners of the Mortal Kombat franchise) actually hired him to create a ten-part web video series around it, and when that was a success they put him at the helm of the next Mortal Kombat movie, set to hit in 2013.
