During the first few moments of Mass Effect, the tone for the entire series is set. This isn't some "lasers set to stun" space game, this is a "the enemy is impaling humans on pillars that turn them into synthetic zombies" space game. Shepard first encounters the Husks on Eden Prime. The Geth, a race of sentient networked AI, are impaling humans on spikes that the Alliance military has dubbed, "Dragon's Teeth." Over time, these pillars convert their bodies into a cybernetic equivalent, turning the dead soldiers into robotic shadows of their former selves. The first time a Husk is detached from a pillar and charges at you is definitely one of Mass Effect's shocking moments.
