Do you think Brandt actually likes Jeffrey Lebowski? Is there a Smithers/Burns thing going on here? Why else would he be so loyal to an angry, human paraquat?
Clearly Brandt knows that his employer has a tendancy to be, at the nicest of times, a bit fatuous. He's frequently softening his speech around others, even The Dude.
Could we consider, then, that Brandt is the anti-Dude? So caught up in the need for material things that he'd put himself through the 7-10 split of life that is working for a living?
