Division I Council sponsors football recruiting proposal

Members also to consider women's basketball, baseball, and track and field legislation

If a proposal sponsored by the Division I Council is adopted next year, Division I schools could pay for parents or guardians of Football Bowl Subdivision student-athletes to accompany their children on official recruiting visits.

The Football Recruiting Subcommittee of the now-defunct Division I Leadership Council initially recommended the proposal, which was presented to the Council by the Division I Football Oversight Committee. If adopted, it would become effective in summer 2016.

Schools already can fund these trips for parents of students who are prospective men’s and women’s basketball players.

NCAA member schools and conferences will have the opportunity to review and comment on the proposals over the next several months. The Council will take final votes on in April 2016.
