Q: If I take the SAT or ACT more than once, how is the score to be used in my certification determined?
A: Your SAT sum score will be calculated using the critical reading and math sub scores. If the SAT is taken more than once, the NCAA Eligibility Center will use the highest of those sub scores to maximize the total score used in the student’s certification.
Here is an example of a student taking the SAT in October 2013 and December 2013:
| SAT (10/13) | Math 350 | Critical Reading 470 | Total Score 820 |
| SAT (12/13) | Math 420 | Critical Reading 440 | Total Score 860 |
| Scores Used: | Math 420 | Critical Reading 470 | Total Score 890 |
Bold indicates best score.
The same would be true for the ACT sum score. The NCAA Eligibility Center will use the best English, math, reading and science sub scores from different test dates to maximize the test score used.
