I had some guests come over to help out on the off grid solar homestead this weekend. We mounted my solar panels on adjustable racks and started work on my Ultimate Bug Out Vehicle.

I had the idea to use my 4wd truck as a bug out vehicle for a long time now. I got a free camper top off CL a couple years ago. this is a fiberglass top for the bed of my truck. It has sliding glass windows with bug screens. It has wiring for an overhead light, access to the cab up front, plenty of head room to sit up inside the bed of the truck and even has roof windows for more light.

I have always wanted to deck out the bed of my truck as a survival bug out vehicle but it had to be removable in a hurry if I ever want to work with the truck or haul something with it.

Finally with my guests over I had the helping hands I needed to put the top on the truck bed. And they helped me to build my survival bug out truck.

I started to build a bed which is easily removed or set up in a hurry. I asked Joe to help me design the frame of the bed so it can slide together nicely and stay put.

Then I built a shelf for the back of the truck bed. This spans the whole back from side to side. It drops right in place and is easily removed if needed. It can also be used as a desk if I pull it forward.

The shelf is perfect for books, lanterns and my gear.

After it got dark out I installed my 20 watt LED flood light with the help of the other Joe, which we call McGuyver Joe due to his skills.

After having plenty of light in the meadow we continued work and got a composting toilet build for the truck bed. This slides in and out perfectly.

McGuyver Joe worked on a portable sink with running water while Joe worked on the frame of the sink.

The sink is designed to sit comfortable in a camp chair and wash dishes or your hands. With a flip of a switch you have running water. The dirty water drains out the bottom into another bucket so you can use it for watering plants or a garden later.

We worked well into the night but had a good time.

After work was done we sat by a small campfire and visited for a while.
