Далеко в Сибири спряталась деревня Елань. Издавна здесь живут два семейства, живут и враждуют - богатые Солмины и бедные Устюжины. В 1917 году в России происходит революция. Это событие коренным образом меняет жизненный уклад многих в России. Не остались в стороне и жители деревни Елань. Но зажиточные Соломины не желают признавать новую власть. В борьбе с ними одинок Николай Устюжанин. Пройдет немало времени, прежде чем поколение детей и внуков Соломиных и Устюжаниных прекратит бессмысленную вражду и построит новую жизнь на богатой и плодородной сибирской земле.

Irgendwo in Sibirien ist in weiter Ferne das Dorf Elan gelegen. Seit jeher leben hier und befeinden einander zwei Familien - die reichen Solomin und die armen Ustjuzhanin. Im Jahre 1917 ist
in Rußland die Revolution los. Dieses Ereignis hat den normalen Lebenslauf von vielen Leuten in Rußland grundsätzlich geändert. Die Einwohner von Elan sind auch nicht beiseite geblieben. Die reiche Solomin wollen nicht die neue Macht anerkennen. Im Kampf gegen sie ist Nikolaj Ustjuzhanin ganz allein. Nicht wenig Zeit muß vergehen bis die Generation von Kindern und Enkeln dieser Familien mit der Feindschaft aufhört und ein neues Leben auf dem fruchtbaren und reichen sibirischen Land aufbaut.

A small village of Yelan is hidden in the backwoods of Siberia. From time immemorial there have been living and feuding, two families: the rich Solomins and the poor Ustyuzhanins. In 1917, a revolution takes place in Russia. This event drastically changes the lifestyles of many people. Nor does it pass the villagers of Yelan by. But the well-to-do Solomins would not recognize the new power. And against them, Nikolai Ustyuzhanin is a lone warrior. Many years will have to pass before a new generation of the Solomins and the Ustyuzhanins would put an end to this senseless feuding and build a new life on the rich, fertile land of Siberia.
