Sinopse

Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz) é um jovem que sonha em ser pintor, apesar de seu pai, Cliff Nelson (John Ashton), ter decidido que ele vai para a faculdade. Paralelamente Keith fica fortemente atraído por Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson), a garota mais popular do colégio, que namora Hardy Jenns (Craig Sheffer), que é rico e gosta de se exibir. Querendo conquistar Amanda, Keith pede ajuda a Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson), sua melhor amiga, sem reparar que ela está perdidamente apaixonada por ele. Enquanto Watts estimula Keith em uma insensata tentativa de impressionar Amanda, surge um outro obstáculo: Hardy, que além de orgulhoso é covarde. Ele articula um plano com seus amigos para darem uma surra em Keith, quando ele e Amanda forem juntos em uma festa na sua casa. Para esta noite Keith gastou o dinheiro da faculdade comprando uma cara jóia para Amanda. Acompanhando tudo isto de perto, a apaixonada Watts sofre o tempo todo
