This seventh installment in the HALLOWEEN franchise was released in 1998 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the franchise. It also features the return of Jamie Lee Curtis in the role of Laurie Strode, last seen alive at the end of HALLOWEEN II. This film is considered to be a direct sequel to HALLOWEEN II, retconning the events of HALLOWEEN 4, 5, and 6.
On October 29, 1998, Nurse Marion Whittington (Nancy Stephens), Dr. Sam Loomis' colleague from HALLOWEEN I & II, returns home from work to find her home burglarized, with files missing about Laurie Strode. She runs next door to warn her teenaged neighbor Jimmy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES), but discovers the he and his friend have been killed. As she tries to escape, she gets the shock of her life by discovering that Michael Myers, thought dead for 20 years, is alive and well and in her living room. Her attempts to fight him off are futile as her slits her throat, killing her. When the police in Langdon, Illinois (where she had been living) are processing the crime scene, they put in a heads-up phone call to Haddonfield, but that is not where MIchael is heading.....
Two days later and 2,000 miles away in Summer Glen, California, Laurie Strode awakens from a nightmare. Since that horrible Halloween night in 1978, she has tried to put the pieces of her life together again with the hopes that Michael would never bother her again. She has even faked her death (one plot point kept from the Part 4 universe), changed her name to Keri Tate, and moved to Northern California to keep him off her trail. She seemingly has a happy life with her teenage son John (Josh Hartnett in his film debut), boyfriend Will, and a great career as the headmistress of Hillcrest Academy, a private boarding school. But she is far from happy, as Michael Myers and the events of that night still haunt her.
Michael finally arrives in Summer Glen and sneaks onto the Hillcrest campus, where John, his girlfriend Molly (Michelle Williams), and their two friends Charlie and Sarah are having a Halloween party in the school's basement. In short order, Michael swiftly dispatches Charlie and Sarah and very nearly kills John and Molly before Laurie/Keri and Will saves them, right after Laurie has confessed her identity to Will.
After hiding the kids, Will shoots at security guard Ronny (LL Cool J), who is rendered unconscious as Michael sneaks up behind Will and kills him. Laurie and the kids escape, but she sends them out of the campus to get help. Tired from years of running and hiding, Laurie then sabotages the main gate, grabs a fire axe, and prepares to do battle with her brother one last time.....
This films also features screen legend-and Jamie Lee Curtis' real-life mother-Janet Leigh (Marion Crane, the shower victim from PSYCHO) in a small cameo appearance as Laurie's secretary Norma.
