🔗 Nobody cares about your blog.

Alex Molas writes:

I started writing on my blog some years ago, and since then I’ve had a lot of reasons to stop writing.

He lists a bunch of reasons why nobody gives a damn about your blog. Lord knows I’ve recieve comments like “who cares?” on my old Wordpress blog over the years, sometimes years after the fact. I’ve worried nobody was reading it. I think all these things are typical when having your own space.

But, Alex then continues you really shouldn’t care what people think. And he’s right. Somewhere around getting through grieving my father’s death and turning 40, my opinion of people’s opinions about me changed a lot. I can truly say I’m happier now than I’ve ever been at any time in my life.

This website is my place of residence on the web. It’s the one I own and have control of. I dictate the content, the host, and the domain name. I care about this part immensely.

I’m not tied down by character limits. I don’t have comments and likes bootstrapped to my posts, begging to be utilized. Those things are there, but, I feel like they’re implemented in a way that brings in more honest feedback, which includes no feedback at all. This place has become a log of my travels, the beers I’ve tried, and the albums I’ve listened to. I sometimes use this site as my own personal Wikipedia of myself. I can search for a beer I tried, for example.

I feel a sense of peace of mind here. Where social media feels like a busy commercial area, full of flashing lights and noise, this is more like a quiet home in a quiet neighborhood. All of these things are why I’m an advocate of owning your own webspace. Largely, because it’s your own webspace. Not Meta’s, not Twitter’s (or whatever the fuck they’ll call themself in 24 hours), nobody else. It’s yours. Own it.
