I had other plans for today’s post but on my weekly check-in to tom Peters, I discovered he has retired.
Tom Peters is the guy who for me put the oomph into business. I remember a lecturer at business school who disliked Tom so much for that aspect…a ‘showman’ he called him. But many of us needed that…to get us excited about business and a constant reminder that analysis is not enough. Essential, but not enough. Do you care, really care? The customer knows.
I heard him speak many times and after a gig in Birmingham, UK I bumped into him in the foyer struggling with bags. I grabbed one and walked with him to his hotel across the square. He gave the conversation 100% and in 8 minutes I was re-inspired on a couple of points.
Tom Peters is brilliant old-school: work hard, focus on the goal and your business will work.
If you are in business, read or re-read anything by Tom Peters. In these bizarre times it helps.
