It's Almost Fall at Forest Springs!
This September finds us in a collision of seasons in
ministry and life. In the past week or two, a few of our activities
- Having “Worship in
the Park” and picnicking with our dear local church in Medford
- celebrating a
- launching our school
- kicking off our
first moms group meeting at our local church
- Saying goodbye to a
dear co-worker of Jake’s of the past 3 years
- Saying hello to a
new creative team member
- Enjoying the last
days of family camp with friends at Labor Day Family Camp, as
the maples begin to show their true colors around the edges of
the lakes here at Forest Springs
- Prepping for and instructing a Hunter
Safety course at Forest Springs
While we feel the whirlwind and
awkwardness of seasons and routines shifting into different gears,
we are thankful. Thankful for a full summer of campers and
ministry. Thankful for the beauty of the earth. Thankful for God’s
steady provision and power for EVERYTHING
that pertains to life and godliness, as he promised in 2 Peter
His divine power has
granted to us all things that pertain to life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his
own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his
precious and very great promises, so that through them you may
become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the
corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
This verse has come to mind so many times in the
past year...Our needs and circumstances keep shifting and changing,
yet our personal God has infinite power and wisdom to meet us and
sustain us through each need, inviting us into his very nature.
This is good news!
Since we have not sent an update in several months,
we will hit the highlights for you in ministry and at home.
- A new playground! Jake helped work with the team to design
this new space that we hope will be a blessing to our campers for
- Leah helped again with the 3-4 year old class during family
camps. She wrote curriculum, invented crafts, and helped to create
a great experience for some of our littlest campers.
- Whenever Jake cooks a “Wrangler’s
Breakfast” for our family campers, one of the kids gets to join in
as a Jr. Wrangler. Often the rest of our family comes along too.
- A full summer of kids camp, wilderness trips,
and family campers with over 3000 campers.
- New LTD students that arrived in June and new
Trailhead students who just arrived in September.
- The first summer of ministry at Cedar Bay, and the
addition of a fourth ministry site - Wood Lake Camp & Retreat
ON THE HOME FRONT
cleared out our van’s “summer trunk”, which was filled with
swimming, baseball, and fishing gear, always at the ready. Our
piled up trunk sort of symbolizes what sort of things we were up to
as a family this summer. While I (Leah) had intentions of our
days/weeks being more “structured” with pockets of educational
projects and consistent read-alouds, I have realized that our life
of ministry and family doesn’t always allow for consistency or
regularity during the summer. And that’s ok. The kids learn
other things as they recreate, as well as when they tag along with
us to camp, and help in various capacities.
The kids are
settling into school rhythms nicely, as Lucas and Will dove into
the public education world, and Ava and Natalie are learning at
home. God’s rich mercy and grace are necessities in each setting,
and we are thankful for the growth He has in store for each of us
highlight for us, is that we are expecting a BABY GIRL
around Thanksgiving! We are thrilled to add her to the mix, and
can’t wait to see what kind of person the Lord has placed into our
WAYS TO PRAY
- Gospel focus in our
ministry and family. It can be so easy to let personal desires
and lesser things consume our time and energy. We need
intentionality and boldness to stay the course.
- Jake would love to have an extra staff or two in his
department, to help with the increasing needs of four sites. If
you know of anyone who is creative and looking for a job, let us
- Provision of 2 pastors for our local church (lead
pastor and youth pastor). We are trusting God in his good timing,
but feel the need for these leaders.
- Grace over our household as we add another little one.
The older sibs are beyond excited to meet and help care for their
little sister, but we know there is always an adjustment period,
and we will need extra patience with the crew.
As always, we love hearing from you, and love
praying for you, so please reach out and let us know how you are
a glimpse of our summer at Forest Springs.
