CBNC 2018 December Newsletter

"I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

December 2018

"We are an organization of churches that is committed

to the mission of Christ to multiply disciple-making churches

through evangelism, leadership training, and connection with

other like-minded churches."

“Don't Forget the Forgotten at Christmas”

"The year was 1973. It was a cold Christmas night at Elmendorf AFB Anchorage, Alaska when an 18-year-old hit the wall. He had come to the end of all that had meaning and purpose. Drugs had taken hold of his life. Rage was common place. He was even thrown into jail overnight for a “hit and run” accident with a military vehicle. He was becoming an alcoholic like his “old man” and would often go to work intoxicated. So what was left?"

Our Update

“We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.” Psalm 33:20-22

Don’t ask why, but a few years ago I took off to Menards to buy a toilet on Black Friday. Big mistake. I got to the line and it weaved and bobbed around the store like a popular Disney ride. I had a choice to make. Wait in line with the killer toilet I wrestled from the Menards top shelf or walk away and go home. To wait for something that has intrinsic value is a great lesson. In these past 15 months of our cancer journey, we are waiting in line on the Lord. To be quiet in our expectations, patient in our hope, and single in our confidence that He will heal Karen is a bright attainment for us. "When is Good News—Good News?"

"Recently I thought I had some good news. On Wednesday before Thanksgiving I stopped receiving emails. I thought: “Good news—no Black Friday sales emails!” Turns out that is bad news because Friday evening when I checked my emails again I still had no emails coming in. Then my wife’s cell phone received a message that my order for $3000 worth of smart phones were on their way." "The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;

    he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.

The Lord helps them and delivers them;

    he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,

    because they take refuge in him."

Psalm 37: 39-40

CBAmerica Chaplaincy

"Forged in Fire: The Saga of Hershey and Joe"

"I listened to the circumstances of Joe’s death and discussed the modified full honors the military would provide due to Joe’s valor award (Silver Star), along with my role as chaplain. As we talked, I realized that this was going to be a “big deal.” All burials are, but this one, due to Joe’s heroic wartime experience would be unique." Read more

Kayla Stoecklein: Suicide Isn't Always a 'decision'*

"Kayla Stoecklein, the widow of Pastor Andrew Stoecklein, who died by suicide earlier this year, opened up about living life without her husband in an interview with Lysa Terkeurst." Read More and See the Video

*When your world gets turned upside down because you've suffered loss from suicide, had a diagnosis of cancer, experienced the collapse of a relationship, the loss of a child, or any number of other things, there is no longer the normal that we yearn for. We long for soothing and healing words from those close to us, but those words aren't always easy for those on the sidelines either.
