Every March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics sponsors National Nutrition Month® to provide nutrition education and information to the public. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends you fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables and you eat two cups of fruit and two and a half cups of vegetables daily. Keep whole fruits available and in sight so that everyone can easily grab something on-the-go. Keep frozen vegetables in your freezer so that you can steam or stir-fry them quickly for a side dish.

Add grated, shredded or chopped vegetables such as zucchini, spinach and carrots to lasagna, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, pasta sauce and rice dishes.

While this health observance is only once a year, it is important to remember that eating nutritiously should be a lifelong pursuit and it is never too early to start forming good habits. Fruits and vegetables add color, flavor and texture to your meals, but they are also great sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber.

The practice sees patients in four locations in the Richmond area and has additional offices in Kilmarnock and Tappahannock.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend 150 minutes of exercise per week.
