Saying that you need some amount of fat doesn’t mean you should go out and buy a double cheeseburger from your favorite fast food restaurant though. You can lose fat in a couple of different ways: lower your daily intake of calories and exercise to burn more calories than you eat.

In fact, the more fat weight you carry, the more you are putting yourself at risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. The tissue in your muscles is actually heavier than fat tissue, and that means building muscle may mean not losing as much weight as you would expect.


Any expert in physical fitness and health will tell you right away that you don’t need to put all of your emphasis on weight loss, but instead on fat loss. The kinds of fat that are safer for you are natural substances called monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. The key to becoming healthy is to tone your body and cut the amount of fat you are carrying on your frame. So, if you are losing muscle, you are losing the means by which to burn the fat in the future, setting you up for future weight gain, and yo-yoing! Obviously, if you work out and burn more calories than you consume every day, then you will lose weight.
