Surviving are five daughters, Garnet (Carlis) Tackett, Joyce Montgomery, Aillene Montgomery, Brenda (Randall) Wolfenbarker and Dottie (Glen) Broughton, twelve grandchildren, Christopher Tackett, Brian Tackett, Mark Birkhimer, Kevin Birkhimer, Ashlee Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Brianna Spradlin, Randa Wolfenbarker, Zachary Mays, Uriah Montgomery, Faith Helms and Trynity Broughton, 14 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Major Montgomery, Chalmer Ray Montgomery and James K. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two daughters, Bernice Montgomery and Donna Marie Montgomery, and a sister, Madgalene Armintrout.

Hager was a member of the carpenter's union, farmer, a longtime member of the Pike County Democratic Committee, President of the Pike County Saddle Club since 1965 and a member of the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church.
