Following four years of teaching in the upper elementary grades at Rembrandt, Iowa, she married Edward Johannes Mosbo on May 22, 1938. Throughout her life Esther cheerfully gave of herself and her time to her family, her church, and her community.
Esther’s enthusiasm for music has been contagious in the family: all four of her children remain active with varied musical pursuits, and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are also immersed in the joy of music.
Frances Lessmeier passed away peacefully on June 9, 2010, in Storm Lake, Iowa, surrounded by her family.
Frances Irene Franzmeier was born on March 1, 1929, in Storm Lake to Walter and Edith Franzmeier and was the oldest of three sisters. She met the love of her life, Lael Lessmeier, at the Cobblestone skating rink in 1948 shortly after he returned from service in Germany. In 1982, Frances and Lael moved from their acreage to Billings, Montana, where they spent two wonderful years living in and exploring a part of the country they had never been to. She loved to play card games with her sisters and their husbands, and she had a special relationship with Dorothy’s daughter, Susan, who she loved as if she were her own daughter. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edith Franzmeier, her grandparents Conrad and Ida Franzmeier and Henry and Minnie Beckfield, her brother in law John Kennedy, her sister in law, Donna Reng and her nephew, Terry Peterson.
Frances is survived by her husband Lael and sons Jeff Lessmeier and his wife Carolyn of Alta, Mike Lessmeier and his wife Sherrill Rinehart of Ashland, Oregon, Greg Lessmeier and his wife Deb of Juneau, Alaska, Tim Lessmeier and his wife Susan of Spokane, Washington, and Russ Lessmeier and his wife Shallee of Eureka, Missouri. Francis is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Kennedy of Storm Lake and Gladys Murphy and her husband Bob of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Frances’s family thanks all who have given their support and especially those who gave care to her over the last year, including those at the Buena Vista County Manor and Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 1:30 PM at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Virgil Winten Anderson, age 84, long time resident of Albert City, Iowa, quietly and peacefully slipped into the presence of his Creator and Redeemer on Friday October 5, 2007.
Virgil Winten Anderson was born on July 4th, 1923, in Laurel, Nebraska, to Lenus and Lillie (Olson) Anderson. On May 29, 1946, Virgil was united in marriage to Annette Alice Carlson in Albert City at the Evangelical Free Church. After farming for nine years, Virgil and his family moved to town and in 1960 and became part owner of the auto garage where he continued to work until his recent illness.
In his love for his family, Virgil was deeply concerned about the spiritual welfare of each of its members. Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 8, 2007, at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City, Iowa, with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2007, from 5-8:00 pm at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City where the family will be present.
Carolyn Glover, age 95, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Webb and Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.
She was united in marriage to Lyle Glover at her parents’ home at Lake Center on January 3, 1932. Carolyn was a longtime 4-H leader and was honored as the State Homemaker of the Year in 1962. Lois (Guiver) Jones, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died August 4, 2009 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Lois Mae Porter, the daughter of Glen and Marie (McConkey) Porter, was born on a farm near Storm Lake, Iowa, on October 21, 1926. On September 19, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Bert Guiver at the United Methodist Church in Rembrandt, and this couple was blessed with one son, Larry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bert, and one brother, Franklin Porter. Elaine Heard, age 78, of Storm Lake died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Country View Nursing Home in Waterloo after a five-year battle with myeloma.
Elaine was born June 21, 1925, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Rosella (Frank) Jepson. Elaine was an active member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, PTA, Girl Scouts, Order of Eastern Star, Wa-Tan-Ye, ICCA and served as secretary for the Storm Lake Centennial Committee from 1971-1973.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Anne Louise Heard on November 3, 1999, by twin granddaughters on May 26, 1972, and by her sister, Lorna Sinkey.
Friends may call at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Waldo Pingel, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Waldo John Pingel was born April 22, 1911, to John and Bertha (Boettcher) Pingel at Rembrandt, Iowa. Luke Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, following a brief illness. After completing high school in Lutheran academies, she attended Waldorf College, graduating with a two-year teaching degree. Frances graduated from high school at Albert City in 1947 where she was a member of the basketball team. She then returned to Storm Lake to share first a room at a rooming house and then an apartment with her sister, Dorothy, as she worked for Elsie Ritchie in her beauty salon. In 1960, Frances and Lael moved their family to an old farmhouse on an acreage west of the Storm Lake airport because of their belief that raising their sons in the country would be better for them. She savored the sound of the birds returning to the surrounding trees in the spring and the sight of fresh spring flowers.
In 1984, work took Frances and Lael to a beautiful, old craftsman home in Brewster, Minnesota, that Frances fell in love with on sight. Her homes were filled with beautiful hand caned chairs, a skill she learned herself and taught to others. She raised her sons to be fearless travelers, and she in turn became a fearless traveler as she visited them in Montana, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
She was loved dearly by her parents, Edith and Walter Franzmeier, and she in turn loved them dearly. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Mary and Carl Peterson of Storm Lake, 10 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers any contributions be made to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Hospice. Schuelke, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Alta, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at the Buena Vista Manor Nursing Home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Radke, the daughter of William and Lena (Hustedt) Radke, was born in Alta, Iowa, on September 18, 1928. The tablet is priced at Rs 8,499 but Lava has not announced anything yet about its availability. She moved with her family to the Sioux Rapids, Iowa, area where she attended grade school before graduating from Sioux Rapids High School. He attended school in Laurel, Nebraska, and resided there until joining the service in March of 1943. He was a current member of the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City where he served in many positions throughout the years. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City with military honors by the Albert City American Legion Post. At the age of seven, Lois moved with her family to a farm near Rembrandt where she lived her youth.
Bert was a master electrician, and he and his family followed the REA as they provided electricity to communities in South Dakota. He was baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake and attended grade school at Zion Lutheran’s school.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and remained a life-long contributor of her time and talents. To this union four children were born: Edward Paul, Eloise Annette, Rolf Erik, and Erik Edward.
In earlier years she traveled with the Pleasant View and Waldorf College choirs, performed often as a vocal soloist, participated in women’s trios and quartets, sang with the Buena Vista County Women’s Chorus, directed junior choir, and contributed her soprano voice to church choir anthems at Rembrandt.
Lael and Frances were married on June 25, 1950, and almost immediately after began building their home on Northwestern Drive in Storm Lake, a project they began with no building experience and little more than the belief that they could do it. They spent many happy years there raising their family, remodeling the farmhouse and celebrating many special occasions with family and friends.

She not only saw her sons graduate from high school, but she saw each graduate from college, and she saw most of her grandchildren graduate from high school as well. Frances and Lael happily remained in their home in Brewster until they returned to Storm Lake in 2007. On her trips to Alaska, she joyfully survived rough boat trips, caught a halibut that was bigger than she was and hiked on trails around Juneau.
She cherished her relationships with her sisters Dorothy and Gladys, and they cherished her.
She said many times that she was grateful for her life and that she took life one day at a time.

Following their marriage, Lyle and Carolyn were engaged in farming in the Lake Park and Ayrshire, Iowa, areas. Carolyn was a member of the Webb United Methodist Church as well as the First United Church of Christ of Sioux Rapids where she was a member of the church choir. They moved to Platte, South Dakota, in 1949 and resided there until he sold his business in 1981. Other special interests of hers included reading, doing yard work when she was able, and playing various card games.
Penney Company, for Buena Vista University, for the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Office and in the office of IBP in Storm Lake. In her retired years at Decorah she enjoyed attending Luther College’s many musical performances and faithfully attending faculty and student recitals. She spent many happy hours baking bread, red cake and apple pie for her family or canning fruit and vegetables with her mother, Edith, and her sisters, Dorothy and Gladys. She collected old glass and almost everything else, making many “finds” at garage sales and auctions. She and Lael were loving and devoted partners in life for nearly 60 years and were inseparable until the very end.
Even as her body grew weak, she continually sought to give joy to others, and her spirit remained strong as she left this world. A special time for the family was Virgil's annual 4th of July birthday celebration which included pancakes and swimming. They later purchased their farm near Webb and farmed there until their retirement in 1976 when they moved into Sioux Rapids. It was through her church involvement that Carolyn dedicated herself to making quilts for many years. She was a constant source of love, wisdom and inspiration to her children, her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews. Louis died in 1959 and Lorene and her sons moved to Alta where she was employed for many years at the First Trust and Savings Bank.
Virgil also enjoyed attending ball games and other activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn will be remembered as a very warm and compassionate person who was always willing to help anyone in need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be given to the American Cancer Society with gifts designated for myeloma research. His quiet, caring presence will be missed dearly by his family even as they celebrate his life on earth with them and his call home to Heaven by his Lord.
These trips began when her family was young and started a tradition that has continued to bring her family together in a place of beauty, a tradition she wanted to continue. John’s Lutheran School in Hanover and then completed her education in Alta, graduating from the Alta High School in 1947.
Her family always came first, however, and she treasured the time she spent with her loved ones. Carolyn continued to make her home in Sioux Rapids until moving to the Highlands Independent Living in Spencer in 1997.
He was a member of the Lion's Club, City Council and American Legion, and he also served as the mayor of Albert City.
