
Developed in the early 1900s by Rensis Likert (pronounced "lick-urt"), Likert scales have gained widespread use in surveys.
It is the most common method for analyzing scale responses. In a Likert question, people rate how much they agree or disagree with a series of statements using a symmetrical agree/disagree scale.
The range represents how intense their feelings are toward a particular item. It is possible to construct a scale by combining the answers to the questionnaire over the whole scale's range.
By doing so, Likert scaling assumes that distances between each Anchor/option are equal; otherwise, the values cannot be regarded as interval data.
