Why is Service so Important at Le Moyne?
The ideals behind a Le Moyne education are based on the teachings of St. Ignatius and the Jesuits. Ignatius, who founded the Society of Jesus in the 16th Century, taught that service is necessary not only to help those who cannot help themselves, but also as a route to enlightenment. It is a way for those who serve others to discover for themselves who they really are and how they can make the world a better place. It's an idea that people from all faiths and beliefs can connect with, as the myriad of students at Le Moyne College have learned.
A student at Le Moyne chooses to do service not only to
make the world better, but also to become the best person he or she can be. On this page, you will find stories about how these Ignatian values have changed the lives of students both past and present. Father Donald Maldari, one of Le Moyne’s campus ministers, also gives a closer look into the meaning of service through a series of video interviews.

“I think in service, we continue to search
for the next level of enlightenment."
- Mike Melara, Executive Director of Catholic Charities, Le Moyne Class of 1981

"I wake up in the morning because
I am blessed to serve incredible
people at a soup kitchen."
- Andrew Lunetta, Le Moyne Class of 2012
