GRAND REOPENING A SUCCESS

SUPPORTERS USHER IN A NEW ERAOctober 1, 2022

Forty supporters of the Langley Cemetery gathered on September 25, 2022, to celebrate the grand reopening of the cemetery after a half century of neglect. Nearly a dozen Weisman family members, who are descendants of people buried in the cemetery, attended and posed by their ancestors graves with old paintings and photos of those long-departed. The property owner and President of the Langley Cemetery Association, Michael Replogle, rededicated and blessed the cemetery as protected ground for past burials and future inurnment of cremains. Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, Anne Arundel Council Member Amanda Fiedler, and Maryland State Delegate Heather Bagnall each offered supportive remarks. Tim & Savannah Finch and the Eastman String Band warmed up the crowd with an hour of fine bluegrass music, including such tunes as “Dancing in the Graveyard”, “Long Black Veil”, and “Amazing Grace”.

A New Era

Langley Cemetery is back after 50 years! Small groups of people are welcome to visit the private cemetery during daytime hours without reservation, unless it is closed by special events or uses.

The non-profit Langley Cemetery Association is responsible for operating and managing the cemetery and is seeking volunteers to help with cemetery maintenance, grave conservation, events, fundraising, and communications. Please contact us if you are interested in helping.

Please also let the Langley Cemetery Association know if you would like more information about opportunities for burying the cremains of your loved one or yourself in the cemetery, something we expect to initiate in 2023.

Look out for future events!
