Well the concepts that social media work by have been around since civilization began I guess, except for a poke being seen as a friendly gesture, which is new.
That is merely the wishful thinking of people who don’t want to embrace new technology and platforms that inconvenience them or weaken their value position within an organization or industry. A generalist role like Digital Marketing Specialist may require a skill set that includes experience with content marketing, analytics, SEO, PPC, and social media.
Perhaps the most interesting results are for “social media marketing,” which had only one social media-focused role in its top five job titles, three generalist positions, and one non-marketing role (Recruiter).
Since few roles would actually have “Google Analytics” in the title, it’s not surprising that the top job titles for that search are so varied.
The extreme volume of social media job listings doesn’t necessarily reflect a huge number of social media focused roles.
Job listings containing “social media marketing” or “social media management” have seen significant recent growth in addition to some staggered growth in the last several years. These numbers changed a bit when looking at keywords within the job title, as opposed to anywhere in the job listing.
Although social media skills are the most prevalent in job listings, they also have less value than the other skills analyzed in the study. It puts a lot of expectation on your expertise and I have most certainly not reached enlightenment in the area of social media.

In fact, someone’s even created a social media job title generator, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Working in social media marketing does not put you on a par with Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Yes job titles have been played around with way too much in my opinion and they are becoming completely absurd when it comes to social media.
Because Social Media is about Branding and Communication and in some cases customer service.
