Internet marketing specialist job description, social media for kids, headhunters in chicago - Tips For You

September 24, 2011 by Nishadha 8 Comments Last Monday I started working for Cinergix as an Internet marketing specialist. The job description of an Internet marketing specialist can vary and include the whole spectrum of the subjects like search engine optimization, social media marketing, conversion optimization, running PPC campaigns to blogging. Internet penetration levels around the whole world are rising and it is expected to reach around 20% in Sri Lanka by 2014.
Whenever I encounter the word internet marketing specialist, I normally think of it as someone who promotes websites via social media marketing and other SEO techniques.
The best way to learn the ins and outs of internet marketing is to start up your own web business. Remember that internet marketing is a constantly evolving field that requires continuous learning. Coming from a Full Sail University Internet Marketing Graduate I have to say you have definitely made some good points.
10 Job Titles and Descriptions for Social Media PositionsHere is a list of the 10 social media job titles and descriptions for various responsibilities and social media activities. Social Media Analyst: The analyst communicates the results and trends of marketing campaigns to internal agencies and possibly directly to clients. Social Media Coordinator: Coordinates marketing events with online activity and tracks the analytics of social media influence, more commonly associated with twitter and other social media distribution channels. A marketing qualified lead has shown interest in your product or service and might be ready to be sold. In a country like Sri Lanka where it is hard enough explaining what a software engineer does, it is very tricky to explain Internet marketing specialist designation.
But there are quite a few companies now offering various Internet marketing services, so shouldn’t be that hard to fine one.
You can see they require a bit of experience, but nowhere on the job description does it suggest the need for a degree.

With internet marketing, most of the time you don’t actually need a degree to work in many of the fields.
A degree may give you a very expensive piece of paper, but it won’t directly get you the experience and skills you really need upon entering the job market. So sure, you can search out and learn a lot of the info on your own, but realize you’re just as likely to find a network marketing (MLM) company or info marketer; so don’t fool yourself for a moment like that journey isn’t littered with land mines because it is!
I often compare the industry of Internet Marketing to the Medical industry in that it’s very broad and there are several areas of specialization.
Considering the way the internet marketing field changes all schools that offer degrees in IM should allow students to do that (if they don’t already).
A degree in Internet Marketing is a new thing and I am in agreement with you that you don’t need degree in this industry but i think what people can do is they can design some sort of crash course on Mindset and approach towards Internet marketing, although this market is very dynamic but still Mindset and approach will remain the same!!! Yeah, internet marketing courses are expensive…but that is the price you pay for a college education. These consultants typically work outside an organization, typically in a digital marketing agency. If its a small company with no special team for Internet marketing you will probably be involved in everything.
Many marketing agencies are opening offices in Sri Lanka to outsource services like search engine optimization and email marketing, so in the future there will be a big demand for people who are comfortable in these areas. Getting your hands dirty and learning the skills required is available to anybody with an internet connection for a heck of a lot less money. But if you want a professional Internet Marketing career and either consult or work in-house with the likes of Disney, Nike or ESPN you can FORGET about not having a degree!!! Those companies represent a mere fraction of the job market, so it really isn’t a valid arguement unless you specifically want to work for one of them.
I agree with you that it’s hard to learn internet marketing in an unstructured environment and that the majority of people out there would fail if they had to do it completely on their own.

If you are joining a marketing agency then at the beginning you are more likely to take part if few of the activities mentioned above. You’ll find yourself picking up all the required skills (SEO, Google Analytics, Adwords, social media marketing, website creation) in no time at all. I created this website to debunk internet scams, give tutorials, share tips and tricks and give advice I’ve learned along the way. I demonstrated this above with job postings within the field (found doing just a very basic search around my area) that show a need for experience preferred over a degree, which was basically EVERY job posting I found.
Learning how to navigate the internet when it comes to making money online can be scary, but check out my #1 recommendation and get started today!
So yes, few companies hire Internet marketing graduates presently, but in time that too will change.
You can specialize in SEO, PPC, Affiliate Marketing, Mobile, Social Media, Analytics, Email Marketing etc. I mention search engine optimization, social media marketing, blogging etc and they mostly get a blank look in there faces. In a country like Sri Lanka where the Internet penetration levels are just above 10%, its no wonder most people have trouble understanding these terms. Sri Lanka is quickly becoming a great outsourcing destination, and with predictions of an Internet boom in Sri Lanka, now is a good time to join the Internet marketing field.
