There are two washer pump/motor units available on this vehicle: a single unit (1) for vehicles with only the front wiper and washer system, and a dual unit (2) for vehicles with both the front and rear wiper and washer systems. Both washer pump/motor units are located at the top of a sump area of the washer reservoir within the engine compartment. A small permanently lubricated and sealed reversible electric motor (10) is coupled to the rotor-type washer pump (9). The use of an integral valve body (6) allows the dual washer pump/motor unit to provide washer fluid to either the front or the rear washer systems, depending upon the direction of the motor/pump impeller rotation.
An inlet nipple (7) on the pump housing passes through a rubber grommet seal/filter screen installed in a dedicated mounting hole of the washer reservoir sump. The filter screen prevents most debris from entering the pump housing. When the pump is installed in the reservoir one barbed outlet nipple (8) on the pump valve body housing connects the unit to the front washer hose, while the second nipple (5) on the dual pump connects the unit to the rear washer hose.
The washer pump/motor unit is retained on the reservoir by the interference fit between the pump inlet nipple and the grommet seal, and by a snap post (3) at the top of the pump motor housing that is engaged into a receptacle on the reservoir which is a light snap fit. An integral connector receptacle (4) on the top of the motor housing connects the unit to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the engine compartment wire harness.
The washer pump/motor unit cannot be repaired. If ineffective or damaged, the entire washer pump/motor unit must be replaced.
