“Although Kota Kinabalu is
littered with tall buildings,
it’s not as busy as you would
expect a state capital to be.
The overall vibe is urban
meets rural.”
“KL is a first-class metropolis
that has not forgotten its
roots. You’ll see traditional
Malay architecture alongside
modern towers, meet
ethnically diverse people and
taste various cuisines.”
Enjoy luscious fruits from the market,
and go pearl shopping at some of the
big malls.
Get a suite at Likas Square
Apartment Hotel (+60 88 252 233)
and take advantage of its free shuttle
service to various points in the city. Rates
range from MYR78-300.
When
not hitting the beach, head to Signal
Hill Observatory Platform, the highest
point in the city, where you can get an
awesome view. Admission is free.
You can’t go wrong with Jalan Alor
Hawker Street where Chinese, Indian
and Malay meals start at MYR8 for two
people.
In Batu Caves, visit the tallest
statue of the Hindu deity Murugan. Don’t
underestimate the 272 steps you need to
take to get there! Stay at Park Royal Hotel
(approx. MYR320 per night) right in the
middle of Bukit Bintang, where all the best
malls — Berjaya Times Square, Pavilion,
Sungei Wang Plaza — are within walking
distance.
