When Qingdao-born, London-based fashion designer
Zhang Huishan achieved major success on the
international catwalk recently, it signified the arrival of
Chinese tastemakers onto the world’s design stage. It also
helped put to rest the much-maligned “made in China” tag,
with its stereotypical connotations of poorly produced,
cheaply made products that fall apart as soon as you touch
them. Is China finally being accepted by Western design
