The shopfront here has remained so
original that you wouldn’t blame someone
for wandering in with a load of dirty washing.
Despite no longer being a coin-op laundry, this
café/bar still has the washing machine taps in
tact. Now their spin cycle takes you from coffee
by day, cocktails and rock ’n’ roll bingo by night.

GOLD COAST
Restaurants and bars are popping up in very
unusual places around the NSW capital.
Top chefs and bartenders have converted a
warehouse, record shop, salon and laundromat
into some of the hottest spots in town
CLEVELAND’S SALON & CAFÉ
A glass wall separates the two halves of
this mixed business. In the intimate space out
front the coffee machine pumps out excellent
coffees from local roasters Little Marionette,
along with a small select menu. Head on
through to the back where vintage barber
chairs await those in need of a trim or a shave.

MOJO RECORD BAR
Originally a record store where music
lovers would gather and then go for drinks
afterwards, the owners decided to combine
their two loves and incorporate a bar. Now you
can drink local craft beers to a soundtrack of
soul, blues and funk.

KITCHEN BY MIKE
The entrance to designer warehouse
Koskela is home to Kitchen by Mike, a rustic
canteen-style eatery dishing up restaurant
quality meals. This is slow food served fast. The
menu changes daily, with specials such as salt
beef with cornichons and super seasonal salads.
Ideal fuel for an afternoon of shopping.

Due to current renovations taking place
on its longstanding Beer City location,
this year’s festival will be held at Qingdao
Century Square, where tents will be set up
between 10 and 25 August to offer evening
entertainment, beer tasting and drinking
competitions. Boasting itself proudly as the
largest beer festival in Asia, both local and
international breweries from around the globe
will be flocking to the sandy shores of China’s
Shandong Province to sip on brews and sample
the nation’s beer drinking culture.
