andDanChilson. Bob joined theGearGrinders in themid-1950s (he’sworked asmechanic for fighter pilot and racer RayCrawford at the Indy
500, andhad a career inGeneral Electric’s aviationwing) andbought this car in2000. Theywork on it together, started racing it in2002 andhold
the current record for theG/BGL class at El Mirageof 199.3mph (321kph). “Dadwas and still is thedriving forcebehind the racing,” saysDan, who
works as a fleetmanager for abeer distributor and is particularly proudof the two and ahalf days they took aBonneville record away fromGeneral
Motors. InOctober 2012hebarely survivedwhen the car crashed at over 200mph. They’re currently rebuilding it and aim tobeback at El Mirage in
2016. “The attraction is building a car yourself andhaving it be the fastest.”
