For high-octane entertainment,
catch a show by Phare, The
Cambodian Circus. It’s a cross
between a Cirque de Soleil
spectacular and a modern
theatrical performance. Each
Cambodian-based tale (they
change regularly) is told through
dance, acrobatics, juggling,
contortion and other jaw-
dropping manoeuvres, with an
impressive band providing the live
soundtrack. The one-hour show is
put on nightly under the big top.
Come early and enjoy a beer or
dinner at the Phare Café. The Siem
Reap branch of this circus troupe
only began performing in the city
last year. It’s an offshoot of Phare
Ponleu Selpak, a Cambodian
NGO founded by eight young
Cambodian artists.
