The Mercedes-Benz W210 chassis (non-4MATIC models) uses an interesting auxiliary fan setup. Begin by removing the two plastic pins holding the outer fan grille in place (green arrows). Now locate the five 10mm bolts holding the upper portion of the radiator support frame to the car (green arrows).
Remove the 13mm bolt holding the horn to the bracket (green arrow) and un-plug the electrical connections. Comments: My 1999 210 has a check engine light on and I had the code read and was told it indicated a problem with the air pump smog pump.
Followup from the Pelican Staff: It should be mounted by the rear of the engine, on top of the intake manifold. Followup from the Pelican Staff: Will the fans come on if commanded using a Mercedes-benz scan tool? One of the routine maintenance items that you should perform on your Mercedes-Benz is the checking and replacement of your serpentine belt. Remove the two spring clips that hold the fan shroud in place on the top of the radiator support (green arrows). Comments: There is a larger nut next to the pulley, it is kind of hidden - I think you should use that to reduce the tension to remove the belt. Comments: T was unable to remove the fan cover on my 1993 300E as per your instructsions, The fan prevented removal.Any other instruction on remoing the fan cover?

Comments: Replaced serpentine belt on 1999 c280 Mercedes Benz and it shredded again within 2 days of repair. When this happens to me, I usually take a proper-size punch and try to get it in the hole, then turn the nut off. There's a hole in the center of that bolt that is supposed to have a cotter pin in it to keep it from turning..

Also pry out the two large spring clips holding the radiator frame to the support panel (purple arrows). On the inside, you'll see the two plastic clips that hold the hood release cable to the panel (green arrows).
Underneath you will see both the service port for the air conditioning and also the electrical connection for the fan motor (green arrow). Now wrap the other end around the other pulley and carefully "walk" the belt around the other pulley by turning the fan blade while you hold the belt in place. It is very easy to get the belt oriented incorrectly, so take your time when setting it in place.
I'm not where this pump is located and if there is a test to determine if it is the pump or a relay of some kind. Coolant mixed with oil, and the 2 fan in front of radiotor not working, I also noticed oil in the plugs housing when changing them, has a rough idle. Any solutions on diy , please help.

Pull the coolant line going to the expansion tank out of its groove on the fan shroud (purple arrow) and carefully pull the fan shroud up and out of the engine compartment. It helps to route it in such a way that you can quickly rotate the belt tensioner clockwise and slip it up over the tensioner. Note that in this picture, the radiator and most of the front components of the engine have been removed. This shredded the drive belt in a week. Same time oil cooler and flap motor went bad as well.
I attached a diagram that should be similar to your vehicle. Give our parts specialists a call at 1-888-280-7799. The site and services are provided "as is" with no warranty or representations by JustAnswer regarding the qualifications of Experts.
If the plastic snap-in pins described in step 1 are broken or missing, the screw-in type drywall anchors you can buy at a hardware store make a great substitute. Whoever owned the car before me took the positive wire and tied it into a line that is hot whenever you turn the ignition switch to the on position probably a sensor went out and it was a cheap fix for them can you tell me what sensor I need, and a picture of where it goes?

The belt should be checked periodically (every 3,000 miles, or when you change your oil). The M104 engine uses what is known as a poly-ribbed belt (having many channels or ribs on the underside of the belt).
This will loosen the serpentine belt and allow you to remove the belt from the alternator pulley.
Well, looks easy, undo the large nut in the rear of the Fan Shaft, Renew the belt drop it back in, tention it, and tighten the bolt! I haven't looked yet, but I'm betting that I've 'sheared' that cotter pin, and I'll have to tap the remains out and temporarily replace it with a hardened pin to back the nut off! This can impact the effectiveness of your air conditioning as well as the cooling system of the car in very hot climates. I followed these instructions and found the belt has lost grip and turned itself inside out causing slippage of the belt. The poly-ribbed belt setup utilizes a spring-loaded belt tensioner pulley that provides the proper tension for the belt at all times, making adjustment unnecessary. When inspecting your belt, the one thing that you want to look for is cracks on the underside of the belt. So i was wondering if there is a way or lets say a special configeration that allows me to run my engine but isolate the pully of the ac. I've got some PB Blaster working on the nut and pin remains until I get a proper 'long' punch to drive it out! NO LUNGING FORWARD, THE TURBO REACTS THE SECOND I STOMP ON THE GAS, AND IT HAS A LOT MORE POWER AND EVEN SOUNDS BETTER TO ME.

With pressure applied to the wrench, and tension relieved from the drive belt, remove the accessory drive belt. An easy way to check if the belt is good is by turning one of the fan blades by hand in the front of the car once the outer plastic grille has been removed. The air control module is a fancy relay, located in the left front engine compartment, it has a 6 pin connector. On the outside of the old belt will be a number that indicates the width and the length of the belt. I GIVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT FOR YOUR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, JUST FROM THE SYMPTONS I GAVE YOU OVER THE e MAIL. If the other fan blade does not turn, then it's time to read though our article and replace the belt.
Use these numbers when ordering a new belt to make sure the replacement is the same as the old one. Then when you roll on the tensioner all the way to the stops, you can slip the belt over the alternor and it's guide above and right 1 position.
It's not super easy and you kind of have to massage it over the ribs of the alternator, but it was WAY easier than any other options I could see, considering you have to have a wrench on the tensioner to do this. My 10 year old daughter then repeated with her hands to feel that they were all seated and get a little dirty. Check the whole belt again for abnormal wear, lines, damage, check each pulley with a bright flashlight.
There's another good article on this site and it's super easy, as with most maintenance jobs on Mercedes.
