A 2-1?4-in.-deep box can be attached to blocking between joists and is roomy enough to handle more than one cable. Paired with a deep box, this hanger is meant to span between two joists and takes the place of wooden blocking.
MarcioWilges writes: Perfect article for me — I'm a ceiling fan in the bedroom that keeps me awake all night because it is moving erratically, and frankly I'm scared them drop down on me at any moment.
The light i¬?xture Smart Box is a unique ceiling product with a UL listed rating for 50 lb. I want to mount a celing fan under a deck, and I'm not sure how run the wiring for outdoor use.
It appears that there is a framing member in the center of where you want to mount the fan. I (like electures) suspect the 2 nail holes are in a ceiling joist and the fan box with a hanger will not work at that location. If the framing member is how I suspect, the box I recommend will work best and keep the fan relatively close to the same location. It is hard to tell what size screws those are and I don't recall seeing that type of threaded connection on the sides for the screws.
I am not familiar with this particular brand of box, but since the box has no provisions for the 10-24 screws to attach directly, I would have to say it is not fan rated. When you guys are saying if it uses 10-24 screws are you referring to the 2 screws with the nuts around them or the two screws on the outer edge..one of which is screwed over a tab? So if I understand correctly since my box do not have actual holes under the 2 "ears" for the screws of the mounting to go then this would not be a fan box? Since I have a remote with the fan that controls both the light and fan should I just connect black to black, white to white, and green to ground and leave the red capped?
With the power off, pull the switch to the ceiling fan and let us know which wires are connected to it. That method allows for light to be controlled by the switch and the fan to be controlled by the pull chain.

Obviously when it was installed by builder didn't think to attach it properly to the joists, so that something I'll do on my own.

I don't know what is up there, and last thing I want is the fan taking a dive on the baby room. I would get a fan rated pancake box, cut the plaster and blue board and screw the pancake box to the joist. It does not have separate 10-24 screw mounting posts, nor is it marked as a paddle fan box. The two nuts circled in green are what hold that box to the bar that spans the ceiling joists.
Ceiling Fan Support 1 answer Would this be suitable for mounting an outdoor ceiling fan under a deck? I tried to install the new fans hanging bracket but the distance between the two closest mounting holes in the smart box appears to be too small to accommodate the hanging bracket so that the mounting bolts dona€™t go in easily since they are pressing against the new hanging bracket. Is it possible that the old mounting bracket was designed for a closer spacing of the mounting bolts than the new mounting bracket? It is also quick and easy to remove for wiring between i¬‚oors, cathedral ceilings and inaccessible attics. I did manage the screw the bolts in almost all the way and started to hang the fan on the bracket and then the whole mounting box started to become detached form the ceiling and drop down.
Can i find out the distance between the mounting holes in your smart box to make sure it is compatible with the new hanging bracket?
