Dryden High School is hosting the annual "Pizza Hut Santa Claus Classic" volleyball tournament this weekend.

A busy weekend for Eagles hockey as the Girls host their annual tournament and the Boys meet Geraldton in exhibition play. The Eagles ended up in third place in the tournament, with Red Lake taking second place and Fort Frances coming out on top.
Both the boys and girls Eagles Hockey teams were at home Tuesday night, with the girls taking on the Beaver Brae Broncos and the boys meeting the Fort Frances Muskies. A late goal by Matt Bartlett sparked the team, but some undisciplined penalties allowed Fort Frances to capitalize late in the game. Goal scorers for Fort Frances were Nick Kaun, Devon Ball, Brendan Cawston, Davis Smith, Jeff Cridland and Chris Cousineau. The Eagles defence worked very hard, holding the Broncos to only 14 shots over the entire game. The Dryden Eagles Girls hockey team followed up on their 6-3 win over Fort Frances Saturday with a resounding 14-0 victory over the Sioux Lookout Warriors tonight at the Dryden Memorial Arena.

Morgan Church and Molly Dorfman led the way with three goals each, with Kyley Engstrom, Alexis Reid and Lauren Shoguchi adding two each, and Taylor Findlay and Alex Wesley each scoring singles. The Junior Girls Basketball team advanced to the final round of playoffs after defeating the Broncos 43 to 35, but fell to Fort Frances 35-24 in the championship game. The Senior Boys Volleyball team defeated Fort Frances in 4 sets (25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 25-16) to advance to the finals, where they fell to the Broncos in 3 sets. The Senior Boys fell behind 2-0 but dug deep and fought back with 25-20, 25-19 and 15-10 wins, handing the Broncos their first loss of the season. Coach McMaster said that the team "started off slow in the first set with Beaver Brae winning 25-12, came out a bit stronger in the second set, but went into the third set down 2 sets to none." Grant Valiquette, Zack Pitchenese and Matt Bartlett two goals a piece, with singles added by Josh Reid, Blair Dingwall, Daimon Wesley, Ethan Egli and Jeff Kropelin. The Eagles played well in the offensive-end putting pressure on their defense with their speed, but made some mistakes defensively, allowing too many of the Fort Frances forwards free reign below the hash marks. The team was suffering the ill effects of the cold and flu season but battled through to a convincing 45 -27 victory.
