The brain and nervous system continues to grow and control the fetal organs and activities. The fetal lungs are quite mature by this week, practicing breathing in and out amniotic fluid [2].
In a male fetus, the testes descend into the scrotum this week, while a female fetus develops all the follicles in the growing ovaries [5]. His appearance already resembles what he is going to look like after birth, only much bigger and plumper [6]. The developing network of auditory nerves enables the baby to hear and recognize both his parents’ voices. Your little one can now open those tiny eyes [13] and might even respond to startling noises with a few blinks [5].
Babies develop a specific sleep-and-wake cycle by the 26th-27th week, with most babies becoming more active at night, often between 9 pm and 1 am [8], when you try to get some sleep.
Usually, the fetal movement increases after you drink something cold or eat something spicy or sweet (as your baby can now taste the foods through the amniotic fluid) as well as after you work out [8]. Your belly is now as big as a basketball and growing every week to accommodate your baby as he experiences his growth spurt [4]. Swelling or edema of your legs might get worse in the third trimester due to fluid retention, increased blood volume and the growing uterus putting pressure on the vena cava (the nerve that carries blood from the lower body back to the heart), slowing down the blood flow [4]. An ultrasound performed this week will show your baby kicking, punching, yawning, sucking on those little thumbs or even blinking his tiny eyes. Routine prenatal visits to your doctor now involve weekly diabetes and blood pressure checks. In a twin pregnancy, the babies are viewed separately on ultrasound so your doctor can better check their growth and health or detect any problem.
While 27 weeks pregnant some of those old pregnancy symptoms may once again be returning.  You may find that fatigue is back again as you carry around the added weight of your baby. Leg cramps are another of those miserable pregnancy symptoms you might experience while 27 weeks pregnant.
Now that you’re that much closer to the reality of giving birth, and this can lead to some anxiety about what to expect in the coming weeks as well as some wondering about what giving birth is actually going to be like. To keep any anxiety at bay it’s a good idea to focus on enjoying your pregnancy and reveling in the excitement of bringing baby into this world. His eyes open and close, he sleeps and wakes at regular intervals and he may suck a finger or thumb. Sweet dreams, little baby! The part of the brain responsible for vision becomes active around the 27th week with all the principal eye structures in place, enabling your baby to make out his surroundings (vaguely) [7]. If you feel rhythmic small movements that last for a few minutes at a time, your baby is probably hiccupping. Fluid retention in your arms and wrist might lead to swelling of the carpal tunnel, pressing on the nerves, causing numbness and tingling sensations in your hands (carpal tunnel syndrome) [12]. Women found to be Rh-negative in previous pregnancies are usually examined for Rh antibodies around the 27th week.
The amniotic fluid levels are assessed while the relative size and growth rate of the babies are evaluated as well. Certainly exciting enough to banish those annoying pregnancy symptoms to the back of your mind for at least a day or two!
Other pregnancy symptoms, such as insomnia and bladder issues, may also add to you feeling exhausted a lot of the time.
You can think of this anxiety as one of those pregnancy symptoms that most pregnant women will go through at some point in their pregnancy whether this is their first or second time giving birth.
While 27 weeks pregnant it’s once again important to make time for yourself so that you can enjoy this time of your pregnancy and ignore those pesky pregnancy symptoms that just never seem to fully go away.

It’s perfectly natural to be feeling this anxiety not only while 27 weeks pregnant but throughout the time that you’re pregnant. Because let’s face it, until you give birth there are always going to be pregnancy symptoms that you have to deal with!
I have heard that if morning sickness is bad its because yours and babys blood groups are very different.


But now its different with my second pregnancy despite the fact that its the baby girl I always wanted.
However at night, when you are resting, your baby wakes up because he cannot feel the rhythmic movement anymore [7]. Having spicy foods might also trigger hiccups in your little one; but, they are in no way annoying to him. This is because as your baby grows and takes up more room in your womb there is more pressure being exerted on your bladder.
Although pregnancy experts aren’t really sure what causes leg cramps there is some speculation that your uterus is the culprit once again. There are some days when every little twinge you feel is going to be one of those pregnancy symptoms that you could spend days worrying about. My hubby and relatives are expressing their concerns but I don't know how to get myself in the new baby bubble. You’ll find yourself running to the bathroom even though you were just in there ten minutes ago! Voila! There are a few things that you can do to lessen the severity of leg cramps and try and get a good night sleep. By 27 weeks pregnant you’ve already been through so many pregnancy symptoms, don’t add unnecessary anxiety to the list! In just a few more weeks your pregnancy will be at an end and you won’t have many more of these relaxing nights to spend watching a good movie! I recently lost my only sister and nothing seems to cheer me up even my little one in the womb. Make sure that you and your partner are discussing all the changes that are happening to you during this pregnancy so that you’re both on the same page when it comes to important decisions that you have to make in the coming weeks. Starting now and continuing through the last three months of pregnancy, you may be plagued by leg cramps, haemorrhoids, varicose veins and an itchy belly. Doing what you can to ease those pregnancy symptoms while 27 weeks pregnant is going to help give you the rest and sleep you need at this time in your pregnancy.
