International Woodworking Fair® is one of the world's largest trade shows for the furniture manufacturing, architectural woodwork, custom and general woodworking industries - but it's more than that.
As an exhibitor at IWF you can meet face to face with new and existing customers from around the world, find new prospects and qualified sales leads, and sell your products directly to customers while exhibiting. Woodworking’s most innovative and exciting trade event of 2015 brings the future into focus—and the picture’s better than ever! The Turning to the Future competition was developed by the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art and craft of woodturning worldwide, and AWFS®, the largest national trade association in the U.S. The American Association of Woodturners (AAW) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota, dedicated to advancing the art and craft of woodturning worldwide by offering opportunities for education, information, inspiration, and community to those interested in turning wood. The Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers® (AWFS), founded in 1911, is a non-profit organization that wholly owns and produces the biennial AWFS®Fair.
Lush was awarded a coveted, custom veneer-marquetry sculpture made by master craftsman Paul Schurch, for his shelf Gravity (pictured left).  This was the first year for the new trophy, which will feature a sculpture made by a different woodworking artist each year. Fair attendees awarded the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Wagner Meters, and a $500 prize to Werner Pyka from Palomar College, for his Quint-Essential federal-style gaming table (pictured right), which also won First Place in the Post-Secondary tables category. First Place winners in each category and at each school level received a $1,000 prize, Second Place winners received $500 and Honorable Mention winners received $250. The biennial event, held as part of AWFS®Fair, attracted 169 entries from 44 different schools in the United States and Canada in 2015, which represents a 30% increase in entries from the previous competition in 2013. Craftboston is New England's premiere exhibition and sale of contemporary art, craft and design. Matt was also recently awarded the Artist Award from the Society of Arts & Crafts and the Searchlight Award from the American Craft Council. Huebinger, Alamo Hardwoods, San Antonio (ii) Curtis Whittington, Pawleys Island, SC and (iii) Douglas Stowe, Eureka Springs, AR. The Shakers, in a tradition of simplicity and functionality, contributed to the style, in fact, the very grain of the state and the last of these communities in the country still calls Maine home.
With the support, Tanner will travel to Zurich, Valencia, and Tokyo to experience the works and studios of Santiago Calatrava and Tezuka Architects.
The event is held each spring at Seaport World Trade Center in Boston and features work by leading artists in the field. Craftboston brings together the finest professional artists working in craft today, emerging artists from leading schools and universities, international artists, book sellers, non-profit craft organizations and educational lectures. Buyers come from all over the globe to see, evaluate and buy machinery, supplies and services. North American high school and post-secondary students who attend accredited art, design, woodworking, and trade programs were eligible to compete in Turning to the Future, and a total of 43 entries from 29 students in 12 schools across the U.S.
The AAW possesses the single largest collection of woodturning information anywhere and its journal, American Woodturner, is the foremost publication on the art and craft of woodturning in the world. Historically, woodturning has been used to create functional objects like chair legs, candlesticks, and bowls. It is not limited to wood furniture but metal, stone, plastics, cardboard, grass–now that’s going a little far, but really it is up to your imagination! There are deeply held values in these life and work choices, those of the Shakers, the boat builders, and all those who coax wood: a fierce independence that is predicated on the strength of community and tradition. He will document his travel to show architecture's effects on diverse societies that will inform a body of work representing the language of architecture. Participating students include Hannah Merchant, Kate Lizotte, Abby Mechanic, Matt Gardiner, Tanner Price, Tina McLuckie and alum Steve Anderson '11.
Buyers search online for products and they know the IWF website is the hub of information for technology online.
Today, latheturned work is also understood as an art form and vehicle for individual enrichment, creativity, and selfexpression.
IWF again attracted buying teams from companies of all sizes, who came from more than 90 countries to see the latest technology in machinery, supplies and services available to the marketplace. And we all need deadlines–that is, by the way, the only way to get a project finished. With a modest learning curve, woodturning engages people from age 8 to 108, and the skills acquired last a lifetime.
