Algonquin College’s Cabinetmaking and Furniture Technician program trains skilled  trades people for work in the residential and commercial furniture making industry. This two-year Ontario College Diploma program delivered in a compressed format over 45 weeks prepares students to work in the cabinetmaking and woodworking industry, producing both traditional and contemporary furniture and commercial cabinetry.
Graduates may find employment in furniture making and cabinetmaking, furniture repair refinishing and restoration, kitchen and commercial cabinetry, as well as boatbuilding and refitting.
Success in the cabinetmaking trade requires strong hand skills and appreciation for attention to detail. The use of technology in cabinetmaking is becoming increasingly important and widely practised. Changes in technology and availability of raw materials have resulted in the evolution of today's industry standards accepted in the furniture and cabinetmaking trade.
Today's cabinetmaking machinery requires both specialized training and maintenance effectively allowing increased efficiency for completion of complicated tasks. Given the vast demand of production-based kitchen and bath cabinetry, industry professionals require in-depth knowledge of the materials and production methods.
Students explore two separate aspects of the trade, kitchen cabinetry and the application of veneers.

Altan studied Heritage Carpentry and Joinery at Algonquin College and is incredibly helpful with a wide variety of woodworking techniques from traditional hand tools to modern power tools. Students progress from developing skills and knowledge of traditional hand joinery to fundamental stationary machine operations to produce and assemble furniture components.
These include writing progress reports and summaries, analyzing, and interpreting contracts and warranties.
In the kitchen cabinetry portion focus is on productivity, efficiency, techniques and the use of modern materials. Brand new role, first-of-its-kind in Ontario higher education, will help Algonquin College maintain its leadership in digital technology and innovation among Ontario colleges.

This creative program allows Aeroplan Members to pool their Aeroplan Miles to support a student – any Aeroplan Member can make a ‘payment’ on behalf of a student as long as they have the required student name, date of birth, and Algonquin College student number. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, jointly delivered with The University of Ottawa, during the years 2007 and 2008 – a subset of applicants or students registered between 2004 and 2008 (approximately 525 individuals).
In addition to providing e-textbooks to over 10,000 Algonquin College students last year, and assisting students with disabilities in receiving their books sooner, Larry’s work has also resulted in more than 2,000 textbook titles to the Alternative Educational Resources of Ontario (AERO) database, meaning that other colleges and students across Ontario have earlier access to accessible textbooks. The program was launched to respond to the forecast growth in seniors and in retirement communities in the Ottawa Valley region – there are 90 communities today, and many are full or at capacity. A number of new properties are currently under construction while existing communities plan for future growth.
Algonquin College announced its first ever Vice President of Digital Technologies and Innovation on Tuesday, a brand new position and the first of its kind within Ottawa postsecondaries and the Ontario college system. The program, which includes 17 youth entrepreneurs representing some 15 companies, is being offered for the first time through Algonquin’s Campus-Linked Accelerator. Algonquin College has notified the University of Ottawa, Carleton University and the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario of this matter, and we are working with them to address the situation. Algonquin College’s e-Text program has reduced the cost of textbooks to 52 per cent of their paper equivalents, and will be supplying necessary resources to over 15,000 students this fall.

Accompanied by their program coordinator, Darrin MacDonald, the students spent two weeks (July 19-August 2) working alongside Parks Canada masons to repair the Cape Merry battery, a mid-1700s battery strategically overlooking the Prince of Wales Fort.
