Evan Prothro was born in 1790 in Darlington County, South Carolina. He was the son of Nathaniel Prothro and Zilphia Morgan. He married Sarah "Salley" Hickson, daughter of Thomas Hickson Jr. and Sarah, in 1815 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina. He died on December 6, 1864 in Aiken County, South Carolina. He was buried in First Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Aiken, Aiken County, South Carolina.1
He is mentioned in the will of Nathaniel Prothro in 1823 in Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.
Evan Prothro was in the city government of Aiken, South Carolina between 1845 and 1855 and was mayor of Aiken in 1855.2 He owned 36 slaves in 1860.3
