William Knox was born about 1586 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. He was the son of John Knox and Margaret Dunlap.1 He married Lady Campbell. He died about 1650.
Settled in Ireland, and his descendants acquired large estates in Mayo. He m. a lady named Campbell, and by her left at his decease, 1650 (with three daus.), two sons.2 William Knox was also known as William Knox of Lifford.1
