More Information About Matthews, NC

Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.

In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[5][6]
The Seaboard Air Line fell into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard then merged with Chessie System to create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

If your opener lacks a comparable safety reversing function, it’s time to get a brand-new opener. The Six-Inch Rule. The picture eyes pointed out above should not be set up greater than 6 inches above the garage flooring. If the eyes are installed greater, a person or family pet could get under the beam and not be found by the photo eyes.

The wall push button for your garage door opener ought to be installed a minimum of 5 feet above the flooring, out of the reach of children. Running under a closing door can be a deadly game. Teach your kids never to play with opening and closing the door. Do You Know Where Your Remote Controls Are? For the factors simply mentioned, keep the push-button controls for your openers where kids can not play with them.

For security reasons, make sure to keep your push-button controls secured. If you park an automobile outside your garage, make sure to lock your vehicle so that potential burglars can not access your push-button control and gain easy access to your garage. Rolling Codes. Some thieves have the ability to “tape” your transmitter’s signal.

However, if your transmitter (the remote control) has rolling code technology, the code modifications after every usage. This renders the thieves’ controls ineffective. Contact your garage door opener producer or your local garage door dealer to learn more. SCREENING AND KEEPING THE GARAGE DOOR OPENERConsult the owner’s manual for additional recommended maintenance for your model of door opener.

Turnaround TestMake sure your opener has a reversing feature. If a reversing feature is not present, the opener should be replaced. Garage door openers produced after January 1, 1993, are required by federal law to have advanced security functions that abide by the latest UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 325 requirements. Contact your manufacturer or installer for additional info.

Check the reversing feature monthly. Initially, test the balance of the door. If the door is properly stabilized, then proceed. 2. With the door fully open, put a 1-1/2″ thick piece of wood (a 2″ X 4″ laid flat) on the floor in the center of the door. 3.

The door needs to reverse when it strikes the obstruction. (Note that the bottom part of “one-piece doors” must be rigid so that the door will not close, but will reverse when it contacts the obstruction.) 4. If the door does not reverse, have it repaired or replaced. Have actually a qualified service technician adjust, repair, or change the opener or door.

If the door does not reverse readily, the force setting might be extreme and require adjusting. See your owner’s manual for information on how to make the adjustment. Extra Security DevicesMany garage door openers can be equipped with additional security gadgets, such as image eyes or edge sensors, to protect against entrapment.

Ensure the additional security gadgets are correctly set up and changed (see owner’s handbook). TESTING AND PRESERVING THE GARAGE DOORPerform routine maintenance steps when a month. Review your owner’s handbook for the garage door. If you don’t have a manual, try to find the model number on the back of the door, or examine the lock handle, hinges, or other hardware for the producer’s name and demand a handbook from the producer.

If you presume issues, have actually a certified individual make repairs. Garage door springs, cables, brackets, and other hardware connected to the springs are under very high stress and, if handled incorrectly, can cause major injury. Just a certified professional or a mechanically experienced person should adjust them, but only by thoroughly following the maker’s instructions.

Do not attempt to fix or adjust torsion springs yourself. A limiting cable or other device should be set up on the extension spring (the spring along the side of the door) to help include the spring if it breaks. Never ever remove, adjust, or loosen up the screws on the bottom brackets of the door.

Regularly lube the moving parts of the door. However, do not lube plastic idler bearings. Consult the door owner’s handbook for the producer’s recommendation. Door BalancePeriodically check the balance of your door. Start with the door closed. If you have a garage door opener, utilize the release mechanism so you can operate the door by hand when doing this test.

It needs to remain open around three or four feet above the floor. If it does not, it runs out change. Have it changed by a qualified service person.
